as always thanks for stopping by - and keep coming back. love, dylan OPENING TONIGHT RedLine's Annual Resident Artist Exhibition : MATERIAL ENGAGEMENTS CURATED BY HARMONY HAMMOND OCTOBER 27 – DECEMBER 30, 2012 "Material Engagements" presumes that materials and their manner of manipulation and presentation function as carriers of meaning as much as sign, symbol, and representation. It presumes an aesthetic activism, an intentionality of content. It intends to interrogate occupations, intersections, erasures and spaces of complex messy positionings. - Explained by Harmony Hammond The opening reception for RedLine members will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 6pm and will feature a curatorial walk-through with Ms. Hammond. This will be followed by a public reception from 7-9pm. hope to see you there. love, dylan so we have this practice where we like to go to museums, galleries, studios, and shows... and after we spend some time looking, talking, responding, etc... we then disclose our "favorites" and take pictures of each other in front of these pieces and express our inspirations. this past thursday (october 25th, 2012) we visited the current showings at the boulder museum of contemporary art - here are a few photos from that visit. if you have the chance don't miss these shows - take the time to see these artworks for yourself. both showings are inspired with amazing textures, stories, and techniques. enjoy. love, dylan from - daniel pitín: cover story
REDLINE’S ANNUAL RESIDENT ARTIST EXHIBITION: MATERIAL ENGAGEMENTS
CURATED BY HARMONY HAMMOND OCTOBER 27 – DECEMBER 30, 2012 OPENING: OCTOBER 27, 2012 MEMBER’S RECEPTION WITH CURATOR + ARTISTS 6-7PM PUBLIC RECEPTION: 7-9PM RedLine is pleased to announce its annual Resident Artist’s exhibition, Material Engagements. She explains: "Material Engagements" presumes that materials and their manner of manipulation and presentation function as carriers of meaning as much as sign, symbol, and representation. It presumes an aesthetic activism, an intentionality of content. It intends to interrogate occupations, intersections, erasures and spaces of complex messy positionings. The opening reception for RedLine members will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 6pm and will feature a curatorial walk-through with Ms. Hammond. i moved more stuff in last night. i can really feel the new studio at RedLine beginning to come together and my creativity beginning to resurface. today i recognize that i still struggle with distraction, personal boundary, and perhaps inspiration... and that while i can experience this sensation of a kind of weightlessness in creativity - lacking concrete ground and vision - i am also aware that soon i will be able to take full advantage of the air that surrounds me - find my wings - and once again take flight. lesson : soar = sore = soar love, dylan here is the current stage for this in progress study for "roof (des)pair"
currently the piece is placed and sketched... the next faze is to fasten planks, paint out the sketched area and insert the portrait into the placed frame. in case anyone is counting --- 28 years ago today i was released from the Wilson Center - crazy huh? it was many lifetimes ago it seems - however, not a day goes by that i do not deal with the effects of that experience, and since then freedom is something i have never taken for granted. please, spend some time today honoring your life's struggles, joys, accomplishments, and failures - celebrate your endurance and capacity for all things. we are all so fortunate to be here - take time - slow down and try to see as many people as you can. love, dylan want to see more: check out my memoir The Last Time I Wore a Dress if you want to know more about my experiences. check out the other pages of this website and/or go to www.sentamentalstudios.com to see more of my artwork and projects. a work in progress
... this is a study for a possible larger version in a future show. working title - roof (des)pair mixed media on board 24"x36" (c) dylan scholinski |
